<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I have been wanting to make a wooden sign for the longest time now and last weekend I finally decided to give it a shot!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Here is the sign I made for my parents. I felt like they needed one ;) and it turned out pretty great! I think the size is perfect! I will most definitely be making more of these. It was a little intimidating at first but I figured nothing in life is easy right?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-MvL8rvdDPWU2dm8Bp4l8c7RUKyQV4wqMNq56wtoH2Xy49In35XhDsNsAv-voAbwPsXEDkUKcFFnWX4y1KDghAFqKDu2Kf7wSHzZtfhL9PBI5408Xliezk10xyDaDS2m7GCfjzRmsMxH-/s1600/IMG_8005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-MvL8rvdDPWU2dm8Bp4l8c7RUKyQV4wqMNq56wtoH2Xy49In35XhDsNsAv-voAbwPsXEDkUKcFFnWX4y1KDghAFqKDu2Kf7wSHzZtfhL9PBI5408Xliezk10xyDaDS2m7GCfjzRmsMxH-/s400/IMG_8005.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">So Josh and I headed to Home Depot and gathered our supplies: </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">One 1x4 </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">@ 10 ft long ( we asked the nice people in the lumber department to cut 3 pieces at 40 inches)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">sharpie paint pen in white</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">4 metal tie plates (we used 4 of those but next time I think I would just rather attach 1x2's to the back)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">screws</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">wood stain of choice (I used Minwax Dark Walnut, LOVE it)</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Now I did not take pictures and I do apologize so I am going to do my best to describe each step..</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Once we got home, we sanded the areas where they were cut. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Then, I laid out the pieces I wanted on the front, faced down. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">From there, Josh attached the metal tie plates to hold the wood together. (But like I said, next time I am just going to use two 1x2's that are a tad smaller than my sign to hold the wood pieces together.)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Stained and waited for it to dry.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">For the wording, I knew I wanted my parents last name and the year they got married. And, I needed to make a print out that was big enough to cover the wooden sign. So I got on PowerPoint. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I have PowerPoint 2010, if you click on the 'Design' tab, there should be an option for 'Page Set up'. I typed in my height and width of the sign.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqvyArrgeJUQDh2weBK06R538w59Pe9xIErtgvzUlouw7-mxWy6nKW_sppw6yLEh_03kmshw4KGE97LY2Ch6j93u-3sTT7v-OxTnsMEMUfuBv1ejCki3yWAz4VcUy60JjJRGN-nVzm4hVP/s1600/Capture1.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqvyArrgeJUQDh2weBK06R538w59Pe9xIErtgvzUlouw7-mxWy6nKW_sppw6yLEh_03kmshw4KGE97LY2Ch6j93u-3sTT7v-OxTnsMEMUfuBv1ejCki3yWAz4VcUy60JjJRGN-nVzm4hVP/s400/Capture1.JPG" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">From there, I made the letters fit to my dimensions.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP3LejFb7265YDUHfoEHrmHnDat92TAAHV_L1kPHBCLhqgMvay2Ua_clwtB53x3bvSKnCaAzToFooflkZR2APck3uPoUWFxqfkmbfw0EqPbm7kCNSHFlkl_aA79oMGz44q7Nh0BliZvB7q/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP3LejFb7265YDUHfoEHrmHnDat92TAAHV_L1kPHBCLhqgMvay2Ua_clwtB53x3bvSKnCaAzToFooflkZR2APck3uPoUWFxqfkmbfw0EqPbm7kCNSHFlkl_aA79oMGz44q7Nh0BliZvB7q/s400/Capture.JPG" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I then saved it as a PDF, selected to print and clicked the 'poster' setting and checked the box with 'cut marks'</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht4DeRzPhJwpqkzOjsB6GJdrbnkawUDy2HTaqpatwYYP4dty7KSyYL_70D90_90e3ni4wX-QRDGX-OgV8wtszvQ0bw0NvgwKhRd_t-DUepYvdSyj4f246PNzIhIH7pKBGhIWl00S3h7JkT/s1600/print.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="387" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht4DeRzPhJwpqkzOjsB6GJdrbnkawUDy2HTaqpatwYYP4dty7KSyYL_70D90_90e3ni4wX-QRDGX-OgV8wtszvQ0bw0NvgwKhRd_t-DUepYvdSyj4f246PNzIhIH7pKBGhIWl00S3h7JkT/s640/print.JPG" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I had a total of 12 pages for this poster when I went to print.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">So after all that shenanigans, I taped the poster pieces together and laid it on top of my board to trace. You can use the chalk method, where you cover the entire back of the poster with chalk and then trace it over the wood, but I wasn't feeling it. I just laid the poster on my sign and traced the letters with a pen. Make sure you trace hard enough to make the indention on the wood!!</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Once that was done, I grabbed my sharpie paint pen and painted my markings!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0QQFkjCOModPaxYpmTZ0uiBrtmEAFIuc__9osWBeN9SDwRIYeOfT5iaw5ml-84fXzU8DMKqcAJGHCzL3KKO7VDHKPypCc0pWZNe8RexNGKYaORxAt5XJzakQ3WhCtP8WmlTIm0-cfOlBV/s1600/IMG_8005.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0QQFkjCOModPaxYpmTZ0uiBrtmEAFIuc__9osWBeN9SDwRIYeOfT5iaw5ml-84fXzU8DMKqcAJGHCzL3KKO7VDHKPypCc0pWZNe8RexNGKYaORxAt5XJzakQ3WhCtP8WmlTIm0-cfOlBV/s640/IMG_8005.JPG" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I am pretty impressed with how it turned out! I am thinking next time I will just free hand the letters. I better start working on my penmanship ;)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><i><b>Hello Friends!</b></i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Don’t last minute crafts just excite you? This past weekend we
made a Jewelry Frame Organizer (for me obviously LOL) Pretty nifty for an old
frame I got at the thrift store huh :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I was having a problem with my jewelry organization. I would just throw my
earrings and bracelets in a drawer, and let me tell you...it was a <b><i>very</i></b> hot mess. So, I decided it was time to clean out my drawer and that is when I thought of constructing this
little guy.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Lately, I've been thinking of building, sewing, cooking new things & any other kind of DIY you can think of, and let me tell you pinterest is NOT helping. I stumbled upon a lovely pin that lead me to <a href="http://www.ana-white.com/">Ana White's</a> site. I seriously want to build everything that she has come up with. With her and another favorite site I found, <a href="http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/">Shanty 2 Chic</a> , there is no telling what I will do next!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So my husband and I have finally completed our entry way table! I am so excited to finally put things on it and decorate it all cute and what not. I got the building plans from Ana White's <a href="http://www.ana-white.com/2012/05/plans/rustic-x-console">Rustic X Console</a> The miter saw was at my parent's house so we didn't get to put the X's on the sides, and I was really sad about that. But it ended up looking pretty good without them. Well in my eyes anyways!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">When we had put the stain on at first, I was freaking out because I thought it was wayyyyyy too dark. We used the Minwax Jacobean, which I had used before on our headboard we had made. I loved the color! This time I couldn't figure out why it turned out so different. Soon after, I realized we had used a lint-free rag to put the stain on the headboard, which gave us more control of how dark we wanted it. For the table, we just used the sponge brushes and let it sit. I should have gone back and used a rag to wipe off the excess stain, but oh well. I think it still looks pretty bad butt to me! I am sure I will post another picture on here soon with some lovely decor on it. But tell me, what do <b>you</b> think?</span></div>

<br />
Welcome to The Herron Way!! I am so excited to see where this blogging thing takes me. I am new to all this stuff, obviously, so hang in there with me. I've been wanting to express and tell the world of all my new creations that I am proud of, like the other day when my husband and I built an entry way table! (I will be blogging about that soon!)<br />
<br />
My husband and I live in an apartment and we have been saving up to buy a house. SO for the mean time, I am trying to create and think of new ways to decorate our little nest. I just like the feeling of making a house your home. OH I am also in the process of making blankets, mostly baby blankets, that I am sure will be on the blog as well. I feel like I am trying to talk about everything at once and nothing is making sense so I'll stop here for now! I just wanted to let you know what is coming in the future of my blogging days :) Anyways, I hope you stick around and see what my blog has to offer.<br />
<br />
Until nest time! (See what I did there)<br />
<br />
xo,<br />
